Who We Are
Edisto Island is located approximately 20 miles from the nearest recreation area. Transportation is not readily available. Funding for transportation, equipment, insurance, facility maintenance and more currently comes mainly through public donations.
A vibrant organized sports program was once in place on Edisto Island, with coaching and team play in many sports. Due to the current lack of opportunity, most of the resident children need basic skills instruction. The lack of youth sports programs on Edisto Island is a serious problem.
So a group of volunteers and JEES faculty members started Edisto Island Youth Recreation, first as an after-school sports program. Trips bring the students to area football and basketball games.
Volunteers and funds are needed to help this program grow. No child will ever be turned away from EIYR because their family cannot provide a fee or purchase equipment.
The youth who participate attend schools in CCSD District 23 or are home-schooled or attend schools outside of this area. They live on Edisto Island, Edisto Beach, Ravenel, Hollywood and West Ashley.
