On December 20,2025 in a special ceremony a new road sign was installed on a section of Indigo Hill Road on Edisto Island. The sign recognizes the extraordinary service and dedication of one of Edisto’s own, Geno Middleton.

A small crowd of government dignitaries, friends, pastors and community members witnessed the presentation of a resolution from the Legislative Assembly of SC acknowledging Middleton’s work with young people of Edisto Island.   SC Rep. Teeple presented the official proclamation, and “Geno Middleton Road” was created.

Geno is known by most of the island community through his work with young people and sports.  More than a decade ago, Middleton and fellow Jane Edwards’ volunteer Jack DiLuna decided to do something about the lack of organized sports and decent playing fields and gyms on Edisto Island.  They created Edisto Island Youth Recreation (EIYR).
